First described in 1778, I. luteola has dark green heart-shaped foliage and piccolo trumpets of scarlet orange and yellow that lure both hummingbirds and aficionados of uncommon garden gems. These spritely vines are perfect in a large pot or scampering along a split rail fence in country gardens, where they twine determinedly to a manageable size.
